Preparing for “Symphony of Kindness”: How Federal Practices Support Cultural Projects in Yakutia

In June 2025, the Higher School of Music of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) will host the First International Performing Arts Competition-Festival “Symphony of Kindness.” This event will serve as a platform for uniting talented musicians and strengthening cultural ties between Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and the Russian Far East. The festival will showcase the rich legacy of Yakutia’s composers to an international audience.

One of the key events of the competition-festival will be the formation of the First Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Far Eastern Federal District, composed of the competition winners. This initiative is expected to foster the development of regional musical art and help establish a strong professional environment across the Far East.

The experience of state support for cultural initiatives demonstrates how essential a systematic approach is for the successful implementation of large-scale projects. A recent decision by Yury Petrovich Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, to hold the “Days of the Far Eastern Regions in Moscow” is a vivid example of how interdepartmental cooperation and federal backing can elevate the status of cultural events.

The “Days of the Far Eastern Regions in Moscow” is a major event that provides a platform to present the cultural, economic, and social achievements of the Far East. The project aims to strengthen ties between the Far East and central regions of Russia through exhibitions, presentations, and activities focused on culture, tourism, and the economy of the FEFD territories.

This initiative not only introduces a wide audience to the unique features and accomplishments of the Far East but also highlights the importance of cultural exchange and collaboration. These goals resonate with those of the Symphony of Kindness, which seeks to spotlight the musical heritage of Yakutia and other Far Eastern regions.

Such examples of state support—like the “Days of the Far East in Moscow”—inspire the further development of the Symphony of Kindness, which aspires not only to present Yakutia’s musical artistry but also to become a significant cultural event at both federal and international levels.

The organizers of Symphony of Kindness aim to adopt the best practices from the Days of the Far East in Moscow, including:

  • Interagency cooperation – Partnerships with ministries, universities, and cultural institutions will ensure broad outreach and sustainable support.
  • Youth engagement – Masterclasses by world-renowned musicians and creative laboratories will open new opportunities for young talents.
  • Prestigious venues – Concerts will be held in iconic halls of Yakutia, with future editions of the competition envisioned on international stages.
  • Media outreach – Active promotion on social media, collaboration with influencers, partnerships with federal media, and broadcasting via platforms like Kultura.RF will boost the festival's visibility.
  • International collaboration – Participation of foreign musicians, experts, and audiences will enhance Yakutia’s reputation as a center of musical excellence.

The First International Performing Arts Competition-Festival Symphony of Kindness has every chance of becoming a cultural calling card of Yakutia and the entire Russian Far East. With the use of cutting-edge strategies and strong partner engagement, this project is set to become meaningful and memorable. The organizers hope the competition-festival will stand as a vivid example of successful cultural exchange and contribute to the international growth of music in the region, strengthening Yakutia’s image as a vibrant cultural hub. Looking ahead, Symphony of Kindness will continue to inspire and unite people through music, drawing attention to the unique traditions and talents of the Far East.
